The Author

Meet Tasha Everest

I spent 27 summers at a kids' horse camp, which basically means I survived a small army of sugar-fueled 8- to 15-year-olds while teaching them how not to fall off a horse. Every week, 60 new campers rolled in, and for three hours a day, we rode through the mountains like a dusty, noisy, occasionally chaotic cavalry.

The camp sat in a stunning foothills valley, wrapped in rivers, mountains, and evergreens—basically nature's version of a postcard (minus the mosquitoes and saddle sores). I taught riding lessons, wrangled horses and emotions, and somewhere along the way, became a confident, outgoing, trail-hardened human with a deep love for horses, nature, and people who can laugh at themselves. I am someone you can absolutely count on in a thunderstorm, stampede, or group singalong.

I came for the horses. I stayed for the kids, the chaos, the sunsets, and the forever friendships forged around campfires and trail rides.
